What principle would that be, then? Surely every day you go to work you're effectively selling a day's leave for the price of a day's work.

The corporate brain cell hasn't been able to figure the fucker out. If you put so much pressure on people to reduce call handling times, some people will inevitably hang up on people to make the calls shorter. So, it follows that these people will call back again and again, and again. There are so many calls on the network that shouldn't be there. Dohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!
How fucking stupid can people be??
They talk about us as a business. I'm sorry but businesses have to be much more effective than this.
Oh well........................... |

I hope they make a major cock-up that enables you to take them to the cleaners.

My Mrs is starting a revolution by putting in place the systems software that should have been there all along, currently at a major online retailer.
What is really scary is that this place turns millions of pounds and they dont actually know if they are making any money or not!

This would be the same HMRC that worked out merging the two predecessor departments would allow them to make 12,000 people redundant, would it?
Thank goodness these people aren't responsible for any accounting exercises which might have a major impact on public finances....

Interestingly... over the original 3 years of the plan 12,000 is equal to natural wastage. There's a turnover of about 1,000 people a year for every 25,000 employees. So all they needed to do was move people around with a bit of tweakage... but they also had some places to shut down and too many managers (the full board of HMRC was 50 'directors', don't laugh).
Because all that looked much too hard, and presumably because somebody in HR was on acid they kicked of with an early retirement plan for several thousand. This series of retirements was due to run annually but after the first two they realised it wasn't achieving anything (and many of the people retiring early would have retired anyway by D-day).
At the same time they implemented a massive pay convergence exercise for the two old departments (no real winners, only losers) and reorganised the whole new Department every few months... something they are still doing. After Brown got in they did clear out some consultant managers (but not enough) but unsurprisingly began to drop the ball with increasing frequency.
The staff reduction exercise is ostensibly drawing to a close and the final tally of 14,500 cut after spinning off NIS and SOCA is I guess less than halfway delivered. But on the bright side they have reduced two average Departments into one giant basket case. Break out the champagne.

I'm thinking of not submitting tax returns for a few years just to see how long it takes anyone to notice.

I expect the spooks are on his case. Don't worry. They'll lose the data soon.
